Turkey In A Sack

An interesting way to roast a turkey; in a paper bag.

Ingredients:

  • 1-teaspoon pepper
  • 2-teaspoons salt
  • 3-teaspoons paprika
  • 4-teaspoons hot water
  • 1-cup peanut oil
  • Additional peanut oil
  • 14 to 16 pound turkey, washed and dried

Method

Preheat oven to 325. Combine first 4 ingredients. Let stand at least 10 minutes. Add oil and mix thoroughly. Rub some peanut oil mixture inside and outside of the turkey. Truss as desired. Pour remaining oil mixture and additional oil into a large heavy-duty paper sack (the type you get from a grocery store with no holes). Rub until every inch of the paper sack is sealed with the oil mixture. Place turkey in sack, breast up. Fold over end of sack and tie securely. Place sack directly on oven rack. Bake approximately 10 minutes per pound. Since the paper sack is airtight, the turkey is cooked by live steam. Therefore, be very careful when opening the sack after turkey is done. This turkey will come out tender and golden brown.

Notes:

Number of servings: Makes one 14-16 pound turkey
