Honey's Stuffing


This bread stuffing contains sausage, dried cranberries, mushrooms, water chestnuts & sage, and is moistened with chicken broth and 1 cup of butter.



Ingredients:

  • 1 package dry stuffing bread cubes
  • 1 package (Bob Evans) savory sage sausage
  • 1 bunch celery
  • 1 lb sliced mushrooms
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 2 sticks of butter (1 cup total)
  • 1 lb dried cranberries
  • 1 can sliced water chestnuts
  • 1 Tablespoon ground sage
  • 1 can chicken broth

Method

Break sausage up in large skillet and brown. Drain off fat. Remove sausage from skillet into large mixing bowl. Put 1 stick of butter into skillet and melt. Cut up celery into 1-inch chunks and put into skillet. Cut onion into wedges and put into skillet. Add sliced mushrooms and "sweat" all the vegetables until crisp-tender. Remove vegetables to large mixing bowl. Add bread cubes to the bowl along with cranberries, water chestnuts and sage. Stir to combine. Melt 2nd stick of butter in same skillet and pour over mixture. Pour chicken broth over all and mix well, being careful to maintain the intergrity of the ingredients. (Don't overmix.) Stuff Turkey and place any additional stuffing in covered casserole (sprayed with Pam first.) Bake stuffing in casserole approximately 35-45 minutes.
