Grandma's German Sweet Dressing

This stuffing recipe combines cinnamon bread cubes with chopped apples, apple cider, and raisins--both dark and golden.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 4 granny smith apples - peeled, cored and diced
  • 4 cups day-old cinnamon bread cubes

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium saucepan, simmer raisins and apple cider, covered, for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. In a greased 9x13 pan, combine diced apples and bread cubes; pour raisins and cider over bread cubes and mix well. Bake for 1 hour or until dressing is set.

Notes: This is my modification of an old German family recipe, passed down from my great-grandmother, that has become a staple at Thanksgiving.

Number of servings: Serves 8.
