BBQ Turkey

This spicy barbecued turkey is cooked on the grill or in a smoker to free up your oven. Rubbed with chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder and then brushed with barbecue sauce, it is full of flavor.
 

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Chili Powder
  • 1/4 cup Salt
  • 2 Tbsp. Garlic Powder
  • 2 Tbsp. packed Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Ground Cumin
  • 1 Tbsp. Dry Mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Celery Seeds
  • 1 tsp. dried Oregano, crushed
  • 1 20-pound Turkey
  • 1 12- to 15-ounce bottle BBQ Sauce (about 1 1/2 cups)

Method

Combine all spices in a bowl and rub over the turkey. Place turkey in a smoker (assembled according to manufacturer's directions) or in a charcoal grill over a pan of water and indirect heat with soaked hickory woodchips on the coals. Cook till turkey is done (180 degrees in thighs), brushing with favorite BBQ sauce the last 30 minutes of grilling.
