Baked Mashed Potatoes

Cook garlic with your potatoes to add flavor. Mash and combine with sour cream, cream cheese, and buttermilk for rich, tangy potatoes.
 

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds potatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 1 8-ounce pkg. cream cheese, softened
  • 4 tbsp. butter
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper

Method

Peel and cut up potatoes and put in pot, covering with water. Add garlic cloves and simmer until tender; drain. In a large mixing bowl combine remaining ingredients. Mash potatoes and garlic and add to mixture in bowl. Mix until smooth. Put into a large casserole dish and bake 1/2 hour at 350 degrees or until golden brown on top.

 

Notes: These potatoes are great for a holiday meal. They can be prepared a day ahead and baked 1 hour before serving.
